Out of this world

April 13, 2010

I’ve always thought cardigans were out of this world, but this story shared with me by @msbattles, blogger of Mimosas In Bed, is truly astronomical.
To paraphrase Neil Armstrong– one small step for knitwear, one giant leap for cardigans!

Further confirmation that the Japanese know how to travel in style: Before blasting off on a thirteen-day mission to the International Space Station on Monday, astronaut Naoko Yamazaki requested that Japanese designer Tae Ashida create a custom outfit for her journey. Ashida called the commission “a dream come true” and settled on a light-blue knit cardigan paired with navy-blue shorts. The design, she felt, conveys “a sense of grace … so that [Yamazaki] can feel at ease as she carries out a tough mission in a male-dominated, bleak atmosphere.” Our own hunt for the perfect cardigan continues.
